Visiting Orihuelas street markets and those held within the different nearby villages is the perfect way to get involved in the daily life of this fantastic holiday destination, whilst also allowing you to choose from a wide variety of food products, clothing and souvenirs. An experience not to be missed!
In the street markets of Orihuela, and those held across the whole municipality of Orihuela, give you the chance to shop for plenty of fresh produce: seasonal fruits and vegetables, fish, meat, cheese, sausages, meats, pickles, olives, dried fruit, nuts, eggs, pastries, cookies, breads, sweets, clothes, shoes, belts, bags, kitchenware, music, carpets, paints, fabrics...a little bit of everything!
As well as purchasing food products, you can also sample many different locally produced goods, with plenty of tapas, beers and wines to try out..produced in and around Orihuela.
In many of these markets it is also easy to find some items that are imported in from other parts of the world such as Mexican chiles that are not readily available to find in local supermarkets, 'yerba mate' that is used to drink 'mate' in Argentina and Uruguay, or spices such as chili powder and coriander used in South America.
In these markets or auctions all products are of the highest quality and much fresher than those you find in supermarkets or department stores and hypermarkets.
In Orihuela, as in Orihuela Costa, and in all its districts you will find weekly markets, whereas in some places these markets are repeated twice a week.
In Orihuela town, there are several markets, the most important is that held in 'Paraje los Huertos', with approximately 295 stalls set up every Tuesday. On Fridays we have a market that is held at the 'Paseo Calvo Sotelo' and there will soon be another market in the centre of Orihuela, in the area of 'los Andenes y la Glorieta Gabriel Miró' a more organised market, that will be held every Saturday.
In the neighborhood of 'Monserratina' there is a street market on Tuesdays. In the 'Plaza de Santa Lucia' there is a flower market also offering fresh produce.
In Orihuela Costa there is a market every Thursday in 'Campoamor' near the 'Rambla de la Glea', and there is also a market every Saturday (in the urbanisation 'Playa Flamenca'), held just behind the Town Hall offices.
Another massive market is held on Sundays, in the village of Murada.
There are also more modest markets in districts of San Bartolomé, La Campaneta and Torremendo.
