How to get to

It is very easy to get to Orihuela; our town and the whole coast of Orihuela are easily accessible by different routes: by road, railway, air and sea, the last two by travelling to nearby Alicante first and from there to Orihuela by road.

There are various ways to get to Orihuela, and some of these are very quick. We would like to remind you of the beautiful climate our town enjoys all year round, meaning tourists can come and visit us any time of year, using one of the many routes that there are to get here.

If you want to come and explore our municipality there are various ways of getting here. Following is some helpful information so you can make the right choices and plan your trip to suit you. Here is the information you will need:

To get here by road from Alicante or Murcia, you can use the Autovía Del Mediterráneo, A7-E15, or national road N340, or the tolled motorway from Alicante to Cartagena AP7. If you chose the first options you will arrive at the town of Orihuela, to get from there to the coast you need to drive some 20km on the CV95, towards our great beaches. On the coast line all our beaches are connected to the national road N332, that has been made into a dual carriage way and been resurfaced recently.
The condition of the road surface is perfect, they were resurfaced in the spring of 2011, and all the signs were replaced too. These are the roads that you will use if you decide to come to Orihuela town by bus, as well as to the coast and other towns in the area and further inland. Our town has a modern and renovated Bus/Train station (The AVE-high speed train- works will be finished in 2014) that caters to long and short distance trains, FEVE, buses, coaches and taxis). You can buy tickets here or just ask for information about train and bus time tables. Our city has routes that link with all of Eastern Spain, Andalucía and of course Madrid.

If you come by plane, the nearest airports are Alicante (El Altet, renovated and expanded in 2011) and Murcia (San Javier) that are 30 and 20 minutes away respectively. Alicante airport is an international airport, with flights from all main European cities, as well as some from Africa and America. There are also daily flights to Madrid, Barcelona, Sevilla and other Spanish cities. The airports complement each other and both have low cost airlines that use them.

They also have all the services you would expect to find in large airports like parking, car hire offices, VIP lounges, restaurants, shops, duty free, etc.
If you want to come by boat, you need to travel to the Port in Alicante. It is some 45 minutes away from Orihuela by car. The Port terminal is modern and caters well to all the tourists and passengers that often use Alicante?s marina, with its two entertainment areas, restaurants and shops. From Alicante?s port, you can travel by boat or ferry to Melilla, Ceuta, the Balearic Islands, Orán and some other coastal cities in the North of Morocco.

Alicante?s port is also popular with big cruise lines that often use it as a departure port or somewhere to stop and rest while on a Mediterranean cruise. Some of the cruise trips include a visit to the monumental town of Orihuela. The Port also has a commercial section.
